Welcome to Issue # 70 of AWS Graviton Weekly, which will be focused on sharing everything that happened in the past week related to AWS Silicon: from January 12, 2024, to January 19, 2024.
Two quick things
I didn't want to start this without answering a fascinating question I got from one of you (Thanks Joe), and the question was simple:
Basically, what's the hype behind this new class of instances? The big difference is that they rely on Graviton 4, the new generation of Graviton processors which are a beast:
- 96 Neoverse V2 cores,
- 2 MB of L2 cache per core,
- and 12 DDR5-5600 channels work together to make the Graviton4 up to 40% faster for databases, 30% faster for web applications, and 45% faster for large Java applications than the Graviton3.

The second matter I wanted to share with you is that on February 1st, 2023, AWS will start charging you for IPv4 addresses, so you need to be prepared for this change.
A good tip I can share with you? Cristian Măgherușan-Stanciu (founder of LeanerCloud, and the creator of AutoSpotting) created this Open Source tool to check the potential costs for this.
