Reduce costs and improve sustainability with AWS Graviton

Date: November 19, 2024

Speakers: Jyri Seiger and Jordan Kramsky, AWS

During this workshop you will learn about the use of Graviton processors with managed AWS services and architectures as well as containerized workloads. You will do hands-on exercises covering following topics:

  • EKS cluster with multi-architecture (x86-64 and arm64) node groups
  • ECS cluster with sample task and service running on a Graviton instance type
  • CI pipeline for multi-architecture docker container images using CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeCommit, and ECR (with docker manifests)
  • RDS migration scenario from MySQL 8 on M5 instance type to MySQL on M6g instance type
  • Amazon OpenSearch Service cluster migration scenario from the M5 to the M6g instance families, with minimal downtime.
  • Testing the performance of an application on Graviton-based instances and evaluating the impact of changes.

Who should attend: Cloud Architects, SREs, DevOps engineers, and other IT Professionals

AWS GameDay GiddyUp Graviton

Date: Monday, November 25, 2024

Place: Online

Are you and your team ready to level up your AWS skills? Then join our gamified, challenge-based AWS GameDay “GiddyUp Graviton” on November 25th, 2024 from 10:00AM - 12:30PM CET.

What is an AWS GameDay?

AWS GameDay is an interactive team-based learning exercise that tests your skills in implementing AWS solutions to solve real-world problems in a gamified, risk-free environment. Most importantly, it is an extremely fun way to learn more about the potential of AWS without the step-by-step instructions provided in workshops or classroom-style sessions. If you are seeking an open-ended, and at times ambiguous, style of training then GameDay is the perfect challenge for you.

What is the upcoming AWS GameDay “GiddyUp Graviton” about?

The setting for every GameDay is our famous narrative about the fictitious company Unicorn.Rentals. This company revamps its campus to include Mythical Sound Bath Yurts and Spirit Animal Yoga Studios for their employees, the company decided to raise their unicorn rental prices to afford these renovations. Customers outraged by the increase in prices has prompted the company to evaluate their finances. Their AWS SA informed them of Graviton-based instances, which can achieve up to 40% better price performance compared to x86 based instances. Unicorn.Rentals is calling for the best engineering talent to help them migrate their workload to Graviton and reduce their IT infrastructure cost as soon as possible.

What you will learn on this Game Day:

  • How to migrate x86 web application to Graviton
  • How to maximize the performance of workloads on Graviton
  • How to resolve software dependency errors
  • How to do performance testing web application and analyzing performance outputs

Which AWS skills do I need to participate?

While some basic programming skills might be handy in a team, they’re not required. It’s intended to run for around 4 hours although it could be run for more or less time, depending on the skill level of the player

The event will take place in English.

Which systems requirements do I need to participate?

You will need to be able to access Amazon Chime, via either the desktop app or through the browser. An AWS account is not required, one will be provided to each team on the GameDay but you will need a web browser with access to the AWS Console.
